History / Inspiration
The grand history of Detroit, tied as it is to the grand history of the United States, is not what this shirt is about. This shirt is about living in Detroit. It's about giving directions that include references to the Berkley Theater, whether or not it's still open, or a theater. It's about how our thriving lives are helping our city to thrive, and not the other way around. The great resources of this area have nothing to do with plant inventories, and everything to do with the determination, toughness, and big dreams of those of us living here.
The artwork on this shirt features famous buildings of metro Detroit, but simply wearing it is a powerful symbol of this city's bright future. Being a resident of Detroit today means having a healthy disregard for anything that starts with the phrase, "Structural economic forces." The only force that's relevant to Detroit is the force of the people here, who built something great once before, and are ready to do it again.
