History / Inspiration
When asked about his piece entitled Forget-Me-Knot, Oakland based artist John Casey replied, "In my work I see beings that are both powerful and powerless. They struggle with their ugliness and debilitation but are also somewhat at peace with it. I see a tension within these characters that only increases. The result may evoke a burst of laughter or yelp of fright."
For this character, his memory knots have become forget-me knots, and the 16 important thoughts he couldn't forget are gone. Maybe his watch can let him know how long they've been missing, but that's not his focus at this particular moment. His expression seems to indicate that his most pressing concern is answering the question, "What the hell should I do now?" He can't remember what he was supposed to do, and with no way to figure it out he's paralyzed and frozen for a moment in time. It's only natural to want him, after an uncomfortable silence, to spontaneously recall his first dozen priorities. Maybe he will.

About the designer
John Casey has been inventing creatures since he was able to hold a crayon. Drawings his mother saved from when he was three years old reveal an obsession with skulls, spirographic eyes, and invented body parts. It continued throughout his youth, during which, "Dinosaurs and horror movies occupied much of my time."
